The challenge

Castello di Ugento, is a brand new museum, experience centre, culinary school and boutique hotel based in Puglia, the heel of Italy. Tasked with defining the entire online experience, our role on the project included: consultancy, user research, digital and content strategy, social media strategy, user experience architecture, visual design, front and back-end development, quality assurance and project management.

Our approach

The key challenge for us was to bring to life the amazing stories behind the castle, and help put Ugento on the map by creating a magical digital experience that inspires hotel guests from around the world but also onboards and inspires local residents who will also be able to enjoy the museum.  Throughout the process we were required to balance the old with the new and respect the history and attributes of the Castle in an authentic but modern way.

As part of the project, we conducted a research study of the Castello and the surrounding area, ran a series of workshops with the client to define the business and project KPI’s, brand essence definition, customer journey framework which considered the different users across all the physical and digital touch-points.

We were also asked to help create the visual identity for Castello di Ugento. This started with several rounds of sketching.

Brand identity

From the very start, Furthermore were incredibly committed to the project. How much they cared about our project and our mission about bringing this old castle to life digitally came across in every discussion and meeting we had with them. This was by no means an easy project to grasp, but their unique approach helped bring some incredibly creative ideas to the table.

The results

The first version of the Castello di Ugento website is now live. As the castle continues its evolution we will be revealing more and more over the coming months with multi-lingual functionality and a complete booking engine on its way. We can't wait for all to be able to enjoy the golden beauty of this castle, the fantastic hosts and the wonderful region in which it resides.
